Article on the growing partnership of Marquette University with the Near West Side and the Merrill Park neighborhood including the Gordon Henke Center. Students are required to be involved in neighborhood projects and are assigned to one according to their age and level of maturity including federally funded food distribution programs, neighborhood service fair, tutoring at St. Rose Grade school, home winterizing, and a survey of homes. Students volunteer about 26,000 hours annually in the city and outlying areas, especially in the Milwaukee West community.
